Getting There
Isla Mujeres

Spanish for "Women Island" is an island where the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea meet.  It is about 4 miles long and ½ a mile wide.  It is located off the Yucatan peninsula, in the Mexican State of Quintana Roo. The Caribbean Sea is to the east and to the west is the Bay of Cancun.  The hotel dotted skyline of Cancún can be seen across the waters. The island has a local population of about 12 thousand full time residents.

It is known for a very low violent crime rate over its history, leading the island to gain a reputation for its relaxed nature.  With the safety of both residents and tourists being unusually high and very important to the tourist economy.  The Isla is also home to one of Mexico’s Navy bases “Quinta Regional Navy Base” The presence of a large navy population add to security of the Island.

Getting there

A flight into Cancun International Airport is where you start.   From there you can choose from one of several Van or Limo services for your ride to Puerto Juarez.  Our favorite is CARM or Happy Shuttle.  They are easy to find on the internet and have an easy-to-use website.  This should be booked a few days in advance of your trip.  Once at Puerto Juarez you will easily see the ferry ticket office.  Buy tickets and wait for your ferry to the Isla. Round trip tickets prices fluctuate slightly with the exchange rate, but at 350 pesos, it comes to about 18 dollars.  You’ll save that ticket for your ride back home. This is a beautiful ride be sure to take advantage of the roof top seats!!  When you arrive at the Isla ferry landing, give us a call.  From the time you plane lands to your arrival on the Isla should be about two hours.  That includes...waiting on luggage, waiting on shuttle, ride to ferry, buying ferry tickets and the ferry over.  We recommend a taxi to the house! Tell the Taxi driver to take you To Madera Food & Art. that is the restaurant at the end of our street.  We are about halfway (1.5 blocks) up that street on the left.  Yellow Sidewalk house!  See the map here.

What to do

The Isla is beautiful, the beaches are considered by travel magazines to be in the top ten in the world.  Cool white sand and crystal-clear water make it a worldwide favorite for sun seekers.  Then there are dozens of outfitters and shops to cater to your snorkeling and scuba diving adventures.  The number and quality of restaurants on the Isla are second to none.  Of course Mexican food is top notch, but then there are authentic Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, Brazilian and on and on.

About the owners

Thank you so much for considering a stay at our island home!

We are Lem and Christi Francis. We are from Southeast Texas, and both involved in the Oil Industry. Our first trip to Isla Mujeres was a vacation in 2011. We went diving and sightseeing. We drove our golf cart all over this little island.  We couldn’t wait to come back…again and again. In 2015 we started looking for a place we could buy and make a home for ourselves. Our diving pro said his uncle had a little place that he needed to sell. So in 2016, we bought a little two room cinderblock house with a lean-to kitchen on the back. A very humble little home with no AC, no kitchen, no pressurized plumbing, and pallets for a fence!

We have brought it a long way and plan to make it our home.  Please enjoy it and tell us how we can make our home a comfortable home-away-from-home for you!

We will be upstairs and available to you for anything you need. But also do not want to be any more than what you need. So we will not involve ourselves in your vacation unless asked.

We have access to a local doctor. We can find you fishing trips, beautiful snorkeling, and diving trips. Advise on restaurants and beach clubs.

Thank you for stopping by!  If you have any questions at all about the house, amenities or us, please ask!!
